Many journalists have

for you to study...

Neal Pollack represents
many things to many people, and nothing to many more. Depending
on who is being interviewed, Pollack is
--The Greatest Living
American Writer, author of more than 50 books of fiction, nonfiction,
military and culinary history, and biographer of seven Presidents.
--Lover to hundreds
of beautiful, mysterious women and several men.

--A wealthy recluse
waiting out the end of his days at his secret fortress in Malta,
attended to only by his mistress and his beleaguered manservant
Roger.
--A reckless bon vivant
and adventure journalist who also owns a "writer's" bar
in Chelsea.
--A five-time National
Poetry Slam Champion and founder of the Neal Pollack Poetry Center
For Homeless Immigrants in The Bronx.
--A devoted son, husband,
and father.
--A mystery wrapped
inside a riddle wrapped inside an enigma wrapped inside a tortilla
with turkey, jack cheese, mixed greens, and Caesar dressing.
--Dave Eggers (NOT TRUE!)
--A former antiques
appraiser who disappears for years at a time and writes mysterious
books beloved by his literary acquaintances.
--The head coach of
the Tennessee Titans.
--The essence of what
it means to be human.
But there are a few
verifiable facts known about Pollack. He is the author of The Neal
Pollack Anthology of American Literature, the first book published
by McSweeneys Books of Brooklyn, New York, and Poetry and Other
Poems, the eighth book published by McSweeneys. In a stunning sellout,
Pollack allowed himself to be purchased by HarperCollins, an international
media and snack-food conglomerate owned by a kind-hearted hardworking
liberal Australian, for only $22,000. That company has produced
a version of the Anthology that is 100 pages longer than the original
edition, and a three-CD spoken-word Òboxed setÓ of PollackÕs collected
recordings that will certainly sell dozens of copies. Pollack is
also now a recording artist on Bloodshot Records, the best alternative-country
label in Chicago, which permitted him to make an album with the
legendary Jon Langford, who Pollack worships as an artist and feels
a mild but controllable sexual attraction toward.
Neal Pollack is a regular
contributor to many fine publications, including the New York Press
and Philadelphia Magazine. He lives in Philadelphia, for reasons
known only to him. Many journalists have dared to write about Pollack,
but the following have done it very well, and with good humor. Enjoy
the articles, linked below. May they give you fortitude and knowledge
in these troubled economic times.
